Sao Joao Feast of St John the Baptist 2018
Venue : Goa
This year the festival falls on 24th June.
feast of St. John the Baptist is one of the most well-known Christian feasts in Goa state. The festival is dedicated to St. John the Baptist, the firebrand prophet. The celebration is known as Sao Joao. On this day people of all ages around Goa gather here and jump into wells, streams and ponds to recover gifts thrown by villagers.
In North Goa the festival is celebrated with great enthusiasm. People from villages dressed up with colourful outfits and meet near a stream front in carnival-coloured boats and floats. But the festival is not celebrated with the same spirit throughout Goa. In South Goa, the festival is celebrated with less enthusiasm. The display of decorated floating platform is an important part of the festival. Different types of folk dances, known as Sangodds will be perform during the festive day.
