South India comprising the state of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu is rich for it’s natural beauty. Apart from its mesmerizing places, South Indian cuisine is much-loved across India, especially its wide spread of breakfast treats like Idli, Dosa and Uttapas.

Every mornings of South Indian homes are awakened with the sizzling sound produced from the spreading dosa over hot pan. It is is a type of pancake made from a fermented batter. Dosa is a typical part of the South Indian diet and popular all over the Indian subcontinent. Traditionally, Dosa is served hot along with sambar and chutney.

Idli and Vada

Masala Dosa is a variant of the popular South Indian food. It is rich in size as well as taste.It has its origins in Tulu Mangalorean cuisine made popular by the Udupi hotels all over India. It is made from rice, lentils, potato, methi, and curry leaves. It is served with chutneys and sambar.

Idliis a nutrient rich breakfast that is popular in South Indian households. These are made by steaming a batter consisting of fermentedblack lentils and rice. The fermentation process breaks down the starches so that they are more readily metabolized by the body.Idli has several variations, including rava idli, which is made from semolina.

Vada is another crispy fried snacks found in India.These are served along it dosa.

The various types of vadas are made from different ingredients, ranging from legumes such as medu vada of South India to potatoes. They are often eaten as breakfast or snack.

Uttapam or ooththappam or Uthappa is a dosa-like dish from South Indiamade by cooking ingredients in a batter. Unlike a dosa, which is crisp and crepe-like, uttapam is a thick pancake, with toppings cooked right into the batter.

Upma or uppumavu is a common South Indian, Maharashtrian, and Sri Lankan Tamil breakfast dish, cooked as a thick porridge from dry roastedsemolina or coarse rice flour. It is a rich breakfast as well as an evening dish. These are rich in taste when served with sugar and bananas. Today it is popular in most parts of India and is prepared in various ways.
