The famous Rath Yathra festival in Puri Jagannath Temple in Odisha will be held between July 14-26, 2018.The arrangements are in progress at Temple premises. lakhs of people will participate in this fascinating temple festival.  


Odisha is one of the beautiful state of India where heritage meets the charm of nature. Odisha offers a lot to its visitors. Ratha Yatra or Ratha Jatra or Chariot Festival is a Hindu festival associated with Lord Jagannath is the most important festival of state. It is believed to be the oldest Ratha Yatra taking place not only in India but in the World . we can see some discriptions of this festival in Brahma Purana, Padma Purana, and Skanda Purana and Kapila Samhita. This 12 day festival takes place in the famous Jagannath Temple of Puri. In the state of Odisha. This annual festival falls on thes econd day in bright fortnight of Ashadha month called Ashadha Shukla Paksha Dwitiya. The procession happens during the festival is fascinating. Lakhs of people gather here to experience the charm of this temple festival.

The festival remembers annual journey of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and their sister Subhadra to Gundicha Temple by way of Mausi Maa Temple- aunt’s home, near Balagandi Chaka, Puri. This is the only day to allow non-Hindus and foreigners in the temple premises. The huge, colourfully decorated chariots carts of Balabhadra, Subhadra and Jagannatha are approximately 45 feet (14 m) high and are pulled by the thousands of pilgrims. They believe pulling of the cart is an auspicious thing. The trees like phassi and dhausa are used to construct the chariots. The chariot of Lord Jagannatha is called Nandighosa and It is forty-five feet high with sixteen wheels. Lord Balarama’s chariot is called Taladhwaja, with the Palm Tree on its flag and has fourteen wheels. The chariot of Subhadra is called Dwarpadalana, with 43 feet high with twelve wheels.
