Ettumanoor Mahadeva Temple is an ancient and famous temple dedicated to Lord Shiva- Ettumanoorappan,located at Ettumanoor, Kottayam district in Kerala. The temple is famous for Ezharaponnana festival celebrated in the Malayalam month of Kumbham. In regional language, ‘Ezhara’ means seven-and-half and ‘Ponnana’ means golden elephant. Procession of these golden elephants is the main ritual on the festival day.
Seven elephants are of two feet high and one elephant is one feet high. That’s why they are together called Ezhara ponnana (seven-and-half elephants). These elephants, made out of wood and covered with gold, and donated to the temple by the then ruler of Travancore, Anizham Thirunal Marthanda Varma.
