Thrissur Pooram Festival 2019 will be held on 13th and 14th, May 2019. The rituals include Madathil Varavu, Elinjithara Melam, Royal Dharbhar, Fire Works &  Farewell.

About Thrissur Pooram

Thrissur pooram, the most spectacular festival, known as the pooram of all poorams, has a tradition of over 200 years. This remarkable event take place at Thekkinkadu ground in the heart of Thrissur city, the Cultural capital of Kerala. The main participants of pooram festival is Paramekkavu and Thiruvambadi Temples. The other temples participated are Karamukku Bhagavathy, Choorakattukavu Bhagavathy, Naithilakattu Bhagavathy, Laloor Bhagavathy, Panayckambilli Sastha, Ayanthol Karthiyayani Bhagavathy, and Chembookavu Bhagavathy. The first pooram of Kanimangalam Sastha temple will arrive at 6.30 in the morning, at the Vadakkumnathan temple.

Madathil Varavu by Thiruvambadi temple, Chembada melam by Paramekkavu,  Ilanjithara melam- world’s largest orchestra, and the dazzling fireworks in the early morning hours , Upacharam chollipiriyal at the noon are the important events during the pooram celebration.




Thrissur pooram is an example of religious harmony.  People apart from religion  and cast actively participate and make their prominent role in each and every part of the festival. The materials used for the most amazing kudamattom are offered by the churches and their members. Panthals are another attraction of pooram festival. Every year temples are trying to introduce new models and patterns for the construction of Panthals. The sight of the panthal with illumination at the night attracts thousands of people every year.




The sample fireworks and Anachamayam are other fascinations offered by Thrissur pooram. The first trial of fireworks is called Sample fire works.  Nettipattom, umbrellas, venchamaram, Alavattom and other things related to the decoration of elephants will be showcased in Anachamayam exhibition. The special umbrellas used for Kudamattom plays an important part  in Anachamayam exhibition.

This well-known  event was started by Sakthan Thampuran, the erstwhile ruler of Kochi.
