UNESCO World Heritage Site in Gujrat

Ran Ki Vav, or the Queen’s Step well, is a UNESCO world Heritage site located on the banks of the Saraswati River at Patan town in Gujarat state. This amazing Royal Steep Well was constructed between 1022 and 1063 AD by the widowed queen Udaymati in the loving memory of her husband Bhimdev I (AD 1022 to 1063). Numerous structures depicting the various ‘avatars’ of Lord Vishnu like Kalki, Rama, Krishna, Narsinh, Vaman, Varahi can be seen here. There are over 800 sculptures among seven galleries. This fascinating manmade marvel of ancient India attracts visitors from all around the world every year.
