This year the festival will be held on the 28th June 2018.

The Champakulam Moolam Boat Race is a famous boat race festival and  one of the oldest  snake boat race held in Alappuzha district  in Kerala state of south India. The race is held on the River Pamba on Moolam day of the Malayalam month Midhunam. This day is considered  the day of the installation of the deity at the famous Srikrishna temple at Ambalappuzha.

Held normally in June or July, people from all over kerala will gather at Champakulam to experience the spirit of this unique boat race.  Currently the organizers of this event is Champakulam boat race society headed by district collector. Boat categories like chundan (snake boat), veppu, iruttu kuthi and  churulan will participate in this wonderful event. History says that the event was initiated in the year 1545 and also It is the oldest Snake Boat Race in Kerala.




Ochira Kali Festival 2018

Venue: Ochira Parabrahma Temple, Kerala, South India

This year the festival will be held the 15th June 2018.

Ochira Kali is a well-known  annual festival celebrated at Ochira Parabrahma temple, Kollam in Kerala state, South India in the Malayalam month of Midhunam. This 2 days festival commemorate the battles between the neighbouring princely states of Kayamkulam and Venad, nearly two centuries ago. During the festival days a mock battle will be performed at warzones called Padanilam in regional language, in the martial art style of Kalaripayattu.

People from the various part of the state will participate to witness this colourful event. Men of all age groups join in these performances and every year, the number of participants increases year after year. Special awards will be given to asans (gurus/Teachers) by the temple authorities. The festival ends with a grand feast.
