Kodungallur Bharani is a famous temple festival celebrated in the month of Meenam at kodungallur Sree Kurumba Bhagavathi temple, Thrissur district, Kerala. Aswathy Kaavutheendalis the main ritual of Bharani festival. During the festival days oracles (Vellichappadu in regional language) dancing in trance and smite their heads to offer their prayers to Goddess Kodungallur Amma. This is really  mystical experience for devotees.

This unique festival statrs with a ritual called”Kozhikallumoodal”. The members of the family of “Kodungallur Bhagavathy Veedu”will participate in this ritual. It is for appeaseing Goddess Kali and her demons. The Raja of kodungallur plays an important role of this festival because the belief is that, Goddess Kodungallur bhagavathi is the patron of Cranganore royal family.
