Sabarimala Sree Dharma Sastha Temple, is a well-known hindu pilgrim spot dedicated to Lord Ayyappa, located at the Periyar Tiger Reserve in the Western Ghat mountain ranges of Pathanamthitta District, in Kerala.
It is one of the important pilgrimmage cente in the world situated amidst 18 hills. The temple is surrounded by mountains and dense forests. Makaravilakku is the important event take place the annual pilgrimage season, that comes usually in the middle of January. It is believed that on the Makara Vilakku day, Lord Dharmashasta stops his tapasya to shower unending blessings to his devotees. The day is also known as Makara Shankranthi. The administration of the temple is under Travancore Dewaswam board, headquarted in Thiruvananthapuram. Tantri is the highest priest and head of the temple.
The temple of Malikappurath Amma , Pampa Ganapathi and Vavar, believed as the friend of Lord Ayyappa are the other important temples in Sabarimala Pilgrimage.
